"O. Wilson Kimball"

Cabinet card photographs were thin photos that were pasted onto pieces of cardboard. They derived their name from the customary practice that people, at the time, had of displaying these photographs on cabinets in the front parlors of their homes.

Venustiano Carranza de la Garza (28 December 1859 – 21 May 1920) was one of the leaders of the Mexican Revolution. He ultimately became President of Mexico following the overthrow of the dictatorial Huerta regime in the summer of 1914, and during his administration the current constitution of Mexico was drafted. He was assassinated near the end of his term of office at the behest of a cabal of army generals resentful at his insistence that his successor be a civilian.

Mustachioed Man on Bicycle from Constantinople

A dapper man in a pin striped suit and cap balances on a bicycle in this cabinet card from the Parnasse studio in Constantinople. I was impressed with his ability to keep the bicycle upright with no brace until I examined it at high magnification. It is clear from the cross hatched retouching that there was a brace under his right hand and behind his right leg.
